E1 Hydraulic Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Forum Energy Technologies (FET) is a world leader for the supply of Work Class ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles), Observation Class ROVs, Trenchers and Submarine Rescue Systems providing innovative solutions for challenging deep water intervention operations. Design and manufacture of these systems is based at the facility at Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire which is part of a worldwide company with headquarters in Houston, USA. These products are known worldwide for unrivalled quality and technical excellence utilising a wealth of experience, delivering products that perform reliably in hostile environments.

The role is within the Engineering department, working on new and existing designs as part of a multi- discipline team. The applicant will have many of the technical competencies and skills listed below, however due to the specialised nature of our business it is envisaged some training will be needed.

Job Purpose:

To provide engineering design and support functions, under instruction of more senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities (Key Tasks):

Provide design input on projects, using the technical competencies listed below.
Produce engineering designs, specifications, and documentation to ISO 9001.
Assist in the preparation of operating and maintenance manuals.
Offsite engineering support for new products.
Assist sales and marketing in the preparation of quotes and proposals.
Provide customer support.
Provide technical support to the production, logistics and integration departments.
Work within the requirements of company procedures and national and international regulations.
Work within the timescales and budgets set by the company.
Other activities as directed by the Engineering Manager.
Accountabilities (Deliverables):

Ensure the suitability of the engineering aspects of company products for theirfunction.
Prompt replies to production, logistical and technical support questions.
Provide design input on all projects as required, within the timescales set by the company.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education /Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Hydraulic Engineering or related/equivalent subject (lesser qualifications coupled with suitable design experience may be considered in exceptional circumstances).
Technical Competencies:

Design of complex hydraulic systems.
Pumping systems (oil and water).
Knowledge of a range of sealing systems, uses and applications.
Systems sizing, flow loss calculations etc.
Systems component selection, cylinders, valves, pumps, motors etc.
Pipework layout and support, fitting systems, etc.
Knowledge of load, deflection and stress analysis.
Knowledge of control engineering and control software.
Geotechnical, soil mechanics and water jetting calculations.
Gas systems design, breathing and high-pressure air systems
CFD Analysis using Ansys and/or SolidWorks Simulation.
Structural analysis, scoping calculations, hand calculations.
Good theoretical understanding of material science for sub-sea use including galvanic and other corrosion effects.
Assembly methods and maintenance.
Inspection, testing and certification requirements.
Ergonomics.
Completing and checking designs and documentation.
Tolerancing, limits and fits.
Drawing layout and symbols.
Key Skills:

Safety conscious, attentive to QHS&E policies and regulations (ISO 9001 QA systems).
Sound engineering knowledge.
Cost consciousness.
Flexibility, adaptability and professionalism, with the ability to work cooperatively as part of a multidiscipline team or individually on projects.
Ability to liaise with other members of staff including customers and third parties.
Time management with ability to plan work loadings, multi-task, and work under pressure.
Ability to problem solve.
Good verbal and written communication skills, clear technical writing, good record keeping.
Attention to detail and effective checking regime.
Software skills. Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD/DraftSight, SolidWorks and conversant with Mathcad.
Willingness to learn new engineering skills.
Experience:

Engineering design environment.
Engineering shop floor experience.
Offshore experience.
Design of ROV systems and associated equipment.
