Frequently Asked Questions

Why did we choose Prostate Cancer Centre as our charitable cause?

Prostate cancer is the leading form of cancer diagnosed in Canadian men.  If diagnosed early, prostate cancer is treatable. Even when the disease is advanced, treatment can eradicate symptoms and prolong survival. (https://www.prostatecancercentre.ca/about-the-prostate/).  With so many men working in the Canadian Oil & Gas industry, it only makes sense to support such as great organization that can help those men if they themselves or a loved one ends up battling prostate cancer.

Where and when is the charity hockey tournament taking place?

The tournament will be on February 8th at the Parkdale Community Association outdoor rink which FET Mulitlift Solutions has rented for the entire day for the tournament.

The Parkdale Community Association has a full NHL-sized rink with new boards, new fencing, a new heated dressing room/bathrooms, a firepit, a full-size Zamboni, and plenty of parking.  It is a first-class outdoor rink facility. https://www.parkdaleyyc.com/

How can my company get involved if we can’t put a team into the tournament?

Please reach out to our team member Curtis Goulet at [email protected] for information on other ways to support the event.  We are happy to accept donations, silent auction items, or any other ideas that you have that may make this event more memorable and successful.

Are you still looking for teams / players?

Yes, we do have a few spots still available so there is still time to register!   Teams can be made up of employees from one company or a group of colleagues or even a beer league team that is looking to play some outdoor hockey and support a great cause.  If you are an individual looking to register and play, please reach out to our team member Cursit Goulet at [email protected] for details.

What is the tournament format?

We’ll be playing 4 on 4 hockey in 40-50 minute run time games.  Each team will get 3 to 4 games depending on the total number of teams and if your team makes the Finals.

What do I get for my entry fee and where does the money go?

The entry fee for each team is $1500 and is 100% donated to the Prostate Cancer Centre.  Each team will also get 3 – 4 hockey games on the ice.  My employer, FET Multilift Solutions, has stepped up and rented the Parkdale Community Association for the whole day and will also be supplying each team with hockey jerseys, hockey socks and skate guards. FET Multilift Solutions is supplying lunch and has worked with the Prostate Cancer Centre to have The MAN VAN® on-site doing PSA blood tests for anyone over the age of 40 for early prostate cancer detection.  There will also be a silent auction and 50/50 taking place for those wanting to further support the Prostate Cancer Centre.

Is my team expected to fundraise over and above the registration fee?

Yes and No…  While we want to raise as much money as possible, we know that asking for additional fundraising is sometimes difficult.  We encourage and appreciate any additional support and fundraising efforts.  Each team can share their team fundraising webpage with friends and family.  Donations can be made online at any time by anyone at the tournament fundraising website:  https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/WebLink.aspx?name=E347030QE&id=66

If I don’t play hockey or I’m not in the Oil & Gas Industry, can I still attend the event? How else can I support The Prostate Cancer Centre?

YES!  Anyone and everyone is welcome at the event!  Tell your friends, family, colleagues, coworkers, vendors, and customers to come out to enjoy watching some hockey, get checked in The MAN VAN®, bid on the silent auction items, buy some 50/50 tickets, make a donation in person or to simply enjoy the weather and festivities with good people.
