Heave Compensation Systems

FET’s Dynacon product line manufactures a range of Heave Compensation Systems. Our offering includes active and passive heave, for winches, cranes, lifting equipment, and lars systems. These systems mitigate vessel motion during offshore operations to protect deployed packages.

We tailor our systems according to our client’s specific requirements, applications, and subsea operations. We offer three types of heave compensation control systems:

  1. Passive heave compensation includes manually adjusted controls.
  2. Active Over Passive adds a compressor unit that actively supplements the auto-passive system and adjusts the capability to the load depth.
  3. Active Type includes a real-time monitoring package and control system that optimizes performance.

Passive Type

  1. Requires no electronics
  2. Simple to operate
  3. Accumulator / Cylinder circuit
  4. Large heave capable with low input effort
  5. >99% uptime
  6. Applicable for crane, multiple sheave heave compensators

Active over Passive Type

  1. PLC-based control
  2. Utilizes compressor to adjust pressure in accumulators
  3. Active on the gas side loop
  4. Passive on the hydraulic loop
  5. Applicable for offshore crane, multiple sheave heave compensators
  6. >97% uptime
  7. Redundant Passive Mode

Active Type

  1. Computer-based control (Scantrol)
  2. Controls hydraulic pump or electric drive systems directly
  3. Acts as a remote control / ahc controller
  4. Easy to retrofit
  5. The power level of the system directly affects performance. A larger power unit will usually be required.
  6. Applicable for direct pull winches, traction winches
  7. >97% uptime
  8. To maximize the performance of an active heave system you should utilize a properly sized hydraulic power unit. The HPU must have sufficient horsepower. Dynacon is an OEM authorized by Scantrol to integrate active heave compensation ahc systems.
