Multi-Drive Winch

The Dynacon MDW (Multi-Drive Winch) is a versatile and robust winch designed for various lifting applications. The MDW is a General-Purpose Winch capable of lifting various loads, including ROVs, trenchers, trawling equipment, man lifts, submarine rescue vehicles, CTDs, and other subsea loads. The MDW improves the lifespan of the drive system and reduces reliance on a single gearbox, motor, and brake.

The MDW features a drive system that utilizes multiple inputs, providing redundancy, reducing wear on components, and extending the winch’s lifespan. This system offers more options for driving and braking the drum while maintaining a compact format similar to legacy Dynacon winches.

Current market offerings include multiple drive winches for offshore applications, available in hydraulic and electric options. These systems are typically large and use air-cooled braking resistors, which have performance issues and short lifespans. The MDW addresses these challenges with its compact design and advanced cooling and braking systems.

Dynacon has served the offshore market since 1986. The General-Purpose winch was developed in response to the needs of major Oil and Gas operators in the early 90s. Over the years, the product has evolved to meet higher performance standards as subsea operation depths increased. The MDW represents the next generation of winches, developed through industry collaboration.

We offer MDWs in both hydraulic and electric options.

Benefits:

  • Load recovery with one less drive motor in case of failure
  • High performance for Active Heave Compensation
  • Quick drum replacement
  • Drum position locking via a pin lock
  • Integrated drum lifting points
  • Small footprint
  • Large capacity drum
  • Highly effective cooling system
  • Road transportable
  • Multiple braking options
  • Hydraulic or electric drive options
  • Slightly larger footprint for electric systems compared to hydraulic systems

Features:

  • Removable Drum: The drum can be removed without disassembling the drive assembly.
  • Cooling System: Advanced systems for electric drives and motors, suitable for offshore and subsea lifts.
  • Innovative Braking System: Electric drives often generate excess power during payload deployment, which must be dissipated. Traditional systems use brake resistors to convert this energy into heat. The MDW’s innovative braking system heats a fluid to transfer energy to the air or a water supply, a process proven effective in cable laying Linear Cable Engines since 2012.
  • Optimized Performance: The MDW offers a compact package with redundancy and long life, outperforming commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) gearboxes.
  • Environmental Impact: The electric drive version significantly reduces hydraulic oil usage by over 98%. It can be powered by clean energy sources and features regenerative capabilities, storing energy during upward movements and using it during
