Rod Lift Protection
Rod lift is the most widely used form of artificial lift in the oil industry, particularly effective in stripper wells nearing the end of their productive life. At the heart of this system is the pump jack, a familiar piece of surface equipment that plays a crucial role in lifting crude oil from underground reservoirs.
A typical rod lift system consists of three main components:
- Surface pumping unit (the pump jack)
- Rod string
- Downhole pumping unit
Powered by a prime mover, the pump jack drives the rod string in a reciprocating motion. This motion activates the downhole pump, which lifts the fluid from the reservoir to the surface.
Rod lift systems are valued for their simplicity, reliability, and cost effectiveness, especially in mature fields where maximizing recovery is essential.
